The Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) engineering industry is closely related to our lives in aspects ranging from the maintenance of lifts and air-conditioners to electrical installation, transportation services and the operation of infrastructure in our society.  All these types of services are supported by a group of technical specialists.  The growing manpower demand in the E&M industry has brought considerable opportunities to young people to develop for their career in the E&M field.

 

Currently, the Diploma in Engineering (Air-conditioning & Refrigeration), Diploma in Engineering (Electrical), and Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical) are launched in collaboration with ATAL Engineering Group, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, Daikin Airconditioning (Hong Kong) Ltd., Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, The Jardine Engineering Corporation Limited and MTR Corporation Limited. Interested companies or organizations are welcome to join us.

Programme Features

 

  • “Hire to Learn”

11 semesters in 4 years

1st semester: The apprentices will study at VTC to build a solid foundation for career development.

 

2nd to 11th semesters: The apprentices will receive on-the-job training in their host companies for 3 to 4 days and study at VTC for 2 days per week. (No evening class)

 

  • Tailor-made for the industry

A series of Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) modules are designed and developed in collaboration with the industry partners so as to ensure the curriculum can meet the industrial needs.  Training and assessment will be conducted by VTC teaching staff and the industry partners.

 

  • Earn & Learn

The apprentices work and study at the same time.  The tuition fees and their salaries are paid by their employers during the 4-year apprenticeship.

 

  • Recognized qualification for further studies

The Diploma in Engineering programmes consist of credit-bearing modules and are pitched at the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 3.  Graduates can articulate to higher diploma or degree programmes offered by VTC upon graduation.

Salary and allowance*

Salary: Not less than $8,000 during the study period Allowance: Successful applicants will receive a Government Allowance of $72,000▲ and an Industry Incentive Allowance of $30,800▲

(1)Completion of Secondary 3 or above, or equivalent; and

(2)Being employed by a designated employer#

*Allowances will not be provided if the apprentice has resigned from the employer or his/her apprenticeship contract is terminated during the training period.

▲The amounts of the Government Allowance and the Industry Incentive Allowance and their payment arrangements may vary across trades and industries. A total subsidy of $30,800 from the Construction Industry Council (CIC) will be given to participants of the Trainee Subsidy Scheme (TSS).
