Now in its 32nd year, the Best of Apprentice Competition is organised by the Automobile Training Board under the Vocational Training Council (VTC) for participation on a voluntary basis by apprentices receiving their final-year training in Vehicle Mechanics, Vehicle Electrics, Vehicle Body Repair and Vehicle Painting.  Since inception in 1986, the competition, runs annually, has received staunch support from employers and apprentices.  Last year, a total of 28 competitors nominated by their employers took part, of whom 12 made it into the final competition.  There they competed for a total of six awards, namely the championship and first, second and third runner-up prizes in the Vehicle Mechanic/Electrician group, and first and second prizes in the Vehicle Body Repair/Painting group.  Following their success in the competition, six awardees toured the Mercedes-Benz Museum and Porsche Museum in Germany, and met with local apprentices at the Porsche Sport Driving School between 27 January and 2 February 2018 to exchange ideas and learn about the latest knowledge and technologies of the motor industry for enhancement of professional skills.
